Simple Home Workouts for All Ages

No gym, no equipment, no problem. A short routine you can do at home to build strength, balance and stamina — adaptable for any fitness level.

You don't need a gym membership to get stronger. Regular movement at home — even 20 minutes a day — improves strength, balance, mood and heart health. The key is consistency, not intensity.

Warm up (5 minutes)

March on the spot, roll your shoulders, circle your arms and gently swing your legs. The aim is to raise your heart rate slightly and loosen your joints.

The routine (repeat 2–3 rounds)

  1. Chair squats — 10 reps. Sit down lightly onto a chair and stand back up. Beginners can use their hands for support.
  2. Wall push-ups — 10 reps. Progress to a kitchen counter, then to the floor as you get stronger.
  3. Standing knee raises — 20 reps. Hold a wall or chair for balance if needed.
  4. Glute bridges — 12 reps. Lie on your back, knees bent, and lift your hips.
  5. Plank — 20–30 seconds. On your knees or toes, keeping your back straight.

Cool down (5 minutes)

Gentle stretches for your legs, hips, chest and shoulders, holding each for 20–30 seconds while breathing slowly.

Make it right for you

  • Seniors: focus on balance and chair-supported movements.
  • Busy professionals: split the routine into two 10-minute blocks.
  • Beginners: start with one round and add another each week.

If you have a medical condition, joint pain or are recovering from injury, check with your doctor before starting a new exercise routine. Our HALA sessions offer guided group workouts in person and online.
